Dragnet Lounge Chair by Kenneth Cobonpue
Polycotton fabric (indoor) or Sunbrella acrylic fabric (outdoor) is twisted and wrapped around a frame of powdercoated steel. Legs made of stainless steel.
“The weaving method is inspired by a traditional Filipino technique, but the materials are very new. I developed a knotting technique that wraps fabric around a galvanized-steel frame. “The name is inspired by the way fishnets look dragging through the water, capturing the beauty of the colorful fish. My hope is that Dragnet could capture the beauty of people in this way.” The indoor model comes with a seat cushion and a big pillow in Picasso Natural fabric. The outdoor model has a seat cushion in Sunbrella Canvas. Dimensions chair: 85cm/33" in deep, 108cm/ 42.5" wide, 155cm/ 53" high. Footstool: 87x69x40cm/ 34x27x16". Watch the video.
Kenneth is a Cebuano whose passion for design triggered his temporary move to the West. There, he studied Industrial Design at Pratt Institute, New York and took up Furniture Marketing and Production in Germany. He briefly worked in Munich and in 1996 returned to Cebu to manage Interior Crafts of the Island, Inc., a family-owned furniture design and manufacturing company. Kenneth regularly gives presentations and lectures around the world from Japan to New York and is an active member of Movement 8, a select group of Filipino designers.

About Kenneth Cobonpue Known for combining traditional materials with innovative production methods and a modern aesthetic, Kenneth has gained design prominence through various awards such as the Japan Good Design Award (7 time winner), the Grand Prize at the Singapore International Design Competition, 2 awards for Best Seating at the 2005 Las Vegas Hospitality and Design Show and Best Outdoor Chair given by HOME Magazine at the 2004 High Point Furniture Show. |
